New: adult women's football on Thursday nights, from 1 October
A weekly session for adult women of any age and any ability, including women who have never kicked a ball. Thursdays, 6.30 to 7.30pm at St Edward's, then tea and a chat. No trials, no pressure, and no need to book.
Focus group at the Bunker: players and coaches wanted, £25 and pizza
Power Up to Play are designing a free course to cut knee injuries in youth football, and they want our players and coaches to shape it before it is finished. Sunday 4 October, 6.00 to 7.30pm, in the Bunker. A £25 voucher and pizza for everyone who comes. They need ten players and so far two have signed up.
Youth Voice Committee: we want 10 to 12 members aged 14 to 18
A new committee with a real route into how the club is run. Monthly meetings, governance training that counts on a UCAS form, and a budget to turn your own ideas into something. Open to any member aged 14 to 18, player or volunteer. Applications close Friday 9 October.
Football as a health service
On Friday our chair, Jim Ruddick, is at the British Lifestyle Medicine Conference in Warwick, talking about football as a health service.
U9 Tigers off to a roaring start
The U9 Tigers kicked off their season with plenty of energy against Oxford City FC Blue. After a summer off, it showed in the best way, with players keen to get moving and get stuck in from the first whistle.
Girls Can Play Football. Period.
Every girls' team at Summertown Stars now carries period products in its first aid kit. It's a small thing, sorted quietly over the summer by Thomas Lyall and Hetty Baker.

Club chair excited for his team's first away match
Our under-11s played their first away game of the season this weekend, travelling to Marcham. It was a good day out for everyone involved.
Last week of the summer football camp
The final week of our summer holiday camp runs Monday 24 to Friday 28 August at Five Mile Drive, 9.30am to 3.30pm. Girls and boys aged 7 to 13, and you do not have to play for the club to come.
Youth Transformation Fund backs our next generation of coaches and referees
The Youth Transformation Fund has awarded Summertown Stars £6,000 towards skills development and mental health e-learning. The money will support the young players coming through the club as coaches and referees.
Fitball: players and parents getting fit together
Coach Matt and Coach Tennyson led a football-focused fitness circuit at Five Mile Drive this week, open to players and parents alike. It is a good way to build some fitness before the season starts, and it is completely free.
Thousands join in at our 2026 tournament
The Summertown Stars annual tournament took place last month, bringing 310 teams and 4,000+ visitors to Cutteslowe Park for an incredible two-day festival of football. Teams ranging from U7s all the way through to adults and veterans braved the heat to take part in 975 matches over the weekend.
Season starts Saturday 5 September
Matches start on Saturday 5 September, with training starting that week. Please note the bank holiday on Monday 31 August: Cherwell is closed, so there is no training there that day.

Star Team Officials Meet To Kick Off New Season!
Team officials from across the club packed into the Bunker this week for the pre-season briefing ahead of the new campaign. With 63 teams and over 850 players to organise, there was plenty to get through.
