Not a statement of intent. Four things the club does, that you can hold us to.
Disability football
The Warriors
Football for children and young people aged 5 to 16 living with cerebral palsy and other physical motor difficulties, on Sundays at Phil and Jim. They play, they train, they travel to tournaments, and they are as much a Summertown Stars team as any side that runs out on a Saturday morning.
Sessions are free, and kit is provided through our sponsors. The team was founded by Dr Sarah Griffiths, who is also the club's Disability and Inclusion Officer, and is run by a team of coaches.
The squad is open to anyone. If your child would like to play, or you know a family who would, message us and we will tell you what time Sunday's session starts and what to bring.
Girls and women
Girls' teams at every age, and two adult sides
Girls play from our youngest age groups right through to the Ladies. Where there is not yet a girls' team at an age group, there is a development squad building one.

Nobody is priced out
If subs are difficult, one email to the Treasurer settles it. Your coach is never told, and it makes no difference to selection, kit, or anything else.

Every player plays
Every child who turns up on match day gets fair playing time, not five minutes at the end. That can be in the league match, the development match or both. Coaches decide who plays when, and over the season every player gets the chance to play in the league game as they develop. Coaches talk their thinking through with players and parents. If you’re worried, speak to your coach, or to us.

Phoenix are our Under 8s, coached by Vincent Guffens. You'll find them training on Wednesday evenings at Phil and Jim and playing their OYFL football at Five Mile Drive on Saturday mornings. Their team page was the first in the club to be filled in and approved for the new season.

New: adult women's football on Thursday nights, from 1 October
A weekly session for adult women of any age and any ability, including women who have never kicked a ball. Thursdays, 6.30 to 7.30pm at St Edward's, then tea and a chat. No trials, no pressure, and no need to book.

Focus group at the Bunker: players and coaches wanted, £25 and pizza
Power Up to Play are designing a free course to cut knee injuries in youth football, and they want our players and coaches to shape it before it is finished. Sunday 4 October, 6.00 to 7.30pm, in the Bunker. A £25 voucher and pizza for everyone who comes. They need ten players and so far two have signed up.

Youth Voice Committee: we want 10 to 12 members aged 14 to 18
A new committee with a real route into how the club is run. Monthly meetings, governance training that counts on a UCAS form, and a budget to turn your own ideas into something. Open to any member aged 14 to 18, player or volunteer. Applications close Friday 9 October.

Being honest about it
If it goes wrong
Not every child settles, and not every season goes well. Here is what happens when it does not.
If your child is unhappy
Tell their coach, or email secretary@summertownstars.org. We would much rather know in October than find out in June. Wanting to change team is a normal request and not a difficult one.
If money is the problem
Email treasurer@summertownstars.org. Nobody misses out on playing for Summertown Stars because of money. Your coach is not told, and it makes no difference to selection, kit or anything else.
If they want to stop
That is allowed, and nothing is owed. We will ask why, because we would like to do better, but every question can be skipped and nobody is chased. If they are moving to another club we will release their FA registration, and sooner if you need it for a fixture.
If something worries you about an adult here
Contact our Welfare Officer at welfare@summertownstars.org. Small concerns are welcome. You do not need to be sure, and you do not need to have evidence. That is what the role is for.
Our safeguarding policy and welfare contacts are in the members area.
There is no waiting list.
Register your child and they have somewhere to play that week. Everyone starts in a development session, whatever their experience, and it is proper coaching rather than a holding pen.
From there one of two things happens. A place comes up in a team, which it does regularly through the season. Or enough children of that age are training together that we start a new team around them.
