The bit that happens around the football.
Matches are across the weekend, Saturday and Sunday, morning and afternoon. Almost everything else about belonging to this club happens the rest of the week, and in the school holidays.
Volunteer With Us
Summertown Stars runs entirely on volunteer power. Around 155 people, coaches, managers, referees, committee members and parents, give up their weekends so that 1088 children across 66 teams get a game.
You don't need football experience. We need people who can organise, communicate, set up goals, run a touchline, manage kit, coordinate fixtures, update social media, and a dozen other things that keep a club this size moving.
Every volunteer gets a free DBS check and FA safeguarding training, and coaches get their FA coaching qualifications paid for by the club.
We also give our volunteers a mental health toolkit, and courses on neurodiversity so that the adults on the touchline understand the children in front of them. These are useful well beyond football, and they are yours to keep.
Roles We Always Need
Can you see yourself as a team manager?
There are more jobs here than most people imagine, and most of them are an hour a week.

Football is the way in. Health is the point.
A child who plays football every week is already doing one of the best things available for their long-term health. We think the club can do more than that, by using the thing they already turn up for to talk about the things nobody quite gets round to.
We are training two Health Champions to work across the club on nutrition, mental health, exercise and strength, periods and training around them, sleep, and the social side of health that matters more than most of us admit. Not lectures. Conversations at the age they are useful, from people the players already know.
The programme is being developed by Sarah Riches, our Public Health Officer.
Our Community Commitments
Inclusivity
Football for everyone, regardless of gender, ability, ethnicity, or family income. Our Financial Assistance Sports Fund means no child is ever turned away. One email to the Treasurer settles it, and the coach is never told.
Safeguarding
Every adult with access to children is DBS-checked and FA-safeguarding trained. Our Welfare Officer is always available, and we follow the FA's safeguarding framework in full.
Development over results
We celebrate effort, teamwork, and improvement, not just goals and trophies. Our coaching philosophy prioritises long-term player development.
Respect
We follow the FA Respect programme. Abuse from the sideline is never tolerated. This is children's football, and it should feel like it.
There is a place here for you.
Most people who run this club arrived as a parent standing on a touchline, wondering how it all worked.
