Plan and lead sessions for a team. The role the club most needs.
Training once a week, plus match days if the team plays
What you would do
- Plan and run the weekly training session
- Pick the squad and manage the team on match days
- Set the tone. More than anything else, the coach decides whether a child enjoys their football
What the club gives you
- Every course free, including the coaching badge
- Kit, equipment and a session plan library
- A coaching coordinator to ask, and other coaches who have been where you are
What is required
DBS check
An enhanced criminal records check, free to you and arranged by our Welfare Officers. Every adult in regular contact with children at the club has one, without exception.
Takes two to four weeks, so we start it the day you say yes.
Safeguarding Children in Football
The FA's online course. Free, done at home, and it needs renewing every three years.
Takes about three hours, at your own pace.
Introduction to Coaching Football
The FA's entry-level coaching course, free to you and paid for by the club. First aid is part of it and unlocks in week two, so it is one course rather than two.
Takes four weeks, mostly online with weekly sessions.
Being straight with you
Worth knowing before you say yes rather than three weeks in.
- You cannot have contact with a team until your DBS and safeguarding are both valid. No exceptions, and it is not something the club can waive.
- You can start the coaching course after you have begun, so it does not hold you up.
What happens after you click

- 2Our Volunteer Coordinator gets in touch, usually within a couple of days.
- 3We start your DBS straight away, because it is the slow part.
- 4You do the safeguarding course at home, in your own time.
- 5You start. Alongside someone experienced until you would rather not be.
