Age group coordinator

Our person on the ground for one year group. You link the coaches and admins across the age group and tell the committee what is really happening.

A couple of hours a month, more in August

How many hours
Two or three hours a month, and a meeting each half term.
Who you work with
Every coach, manager and administrator in your year group, and the Chair.
Where it sits
You report into the main committee. Age Group Coordinators are a standing item at every meeting.
Is there a budget
No standing budget, but you can ask the committee for what your age group needs and you will be listened to, because you are the one who knows.

Will I get training?

Yes, and everybody gets an induction whatever the role. Nobody is dropped into a job here and left to work it out.

What you would do

  • Know the coaches and managers in your age group, and make sure they know each other
  • Spot the problems early: the team with no manager, the coach about to give up, the child who has stopped coming
  • Bring that to the committee, and take the committee's answer back
  • Help move players between teams within the age group when a squad is short or a child is in the wrong place
  • Present the team awards for your age group at presentation day

What the club gives you

  • DBS and safeguarding, both free

What is required

DBS check

An enhanced criminal records check, free to you and arranged by our Welfare Officers. Every adult in regular contact with children at the club has one, without exception.

Takes two to four weeks, so we start it the day you say yes.

Safeguarding Children in Football

The FA's online course. Free, done at home, and it needs renewing every three years.

Takes about three hours, at your own pace.

Being straight with you

Worth knowing before you say yes rather than three weeks in.

  • You are not the coaches' manager. You are their link to the club, which works better and asks less of you.
  • Anything about an individual child or a safeguarding concern goes straight to a Welfare Officer, not through you.

What happens after you click

  1. 1You tell us you are interested. Four questions, about a minute.
  2. 2Our Volunteer Coordinator gets in touch, usually within a couple of days.
  3. 3We start your DBS straight away, because it is the slow part.
  4. 4You do the safeguarding course at home, in your own time.
  5. 5You start. Alongside someone experienced until you would rather not be.
