We are at the start of this one. Youth Voice is being set up now, and we are looking for the young people who want to help shape what it becomes. That means the first few people through the door get to decide how it works, rather than joining something already built.
This club is run by adults. It exists for people aged six to eighteen, and almost every decision about it is taken by people who are neither. Youth Voice is the beginning of fixing that.
What it is
A small committee of players from our older age groups, meeting a few times a year, with a real route for what they say to reach the people who run the club. Not a suggestion box. A standing slot at the committee table, so the things raised are heard rather than filed.
It is led by John Kelly. It will start small and grow if it works, which is how most good things at this club have started.
What you would actually do
- Bring things up that matter to players and would otherwise never reach the committee
- Have a say on decisions that affect young members, before they are taken rather than after
- Help shape how the club talks to its own players
- Give younger children a recognised route to raise something that is bothering them
Who it is for
Players aged 16 to 18. You do not need to be a captain, or the most confident person in your team, or someone who enjoys meetings. Arguably it works better if you are not.
How it will be run
Because the members are children, the way this operates is being designed with the club's Welfare Officer from the outset rather than added on afterwards. That means a DBS checked adult lead, parental consent, and clear arrangements about where and how the group meets. We would rather take a few weeks longer and get that right.
Register your interest now and you will hear from us as it takes shape.
